SALISBURY — Warm spring temperatures and cool nights have let many lawns green up seemingly overnight. Many people are mowing their lawns least three times a week to keep up with the current growth.
Cooperative Extension normally receives a flurry of calls concerning lawn care in the spring, mostly with weed control. But many are choosing alternative methods, not using chemical weed control or herbicides. Many are adopting the attitude, “If it’s green, it’s a lawn.” Weeds blending with the turf quickly become part of their mindset. However, there are cultural practices homeowners can implement that will help reduce unwanted weeds without the use of herbicides.
