High school volleyball roundup: Milestone for Yang; South, East win

MISENHEIMER — Senior Ashley Yang recorded her 2,000th career assist on Monday in Salisbury’s non-conference loss at Gray Stone Day.

The Knights (7-6) won 25-18, 25-18 and 25-20.

Other than Yang’s milestone (see Sunday’s Post for a story), there weren’t a ton of highlights for the Hornets, who had an off night.

Ava Morris had nine kills and six digs for the Hornets (4-5).

Dayami Acevedo had the kill on Yang’s 2,000th assist. Acevedo had seven kills and 17 digs.

Carmen McQueen had eight kills. Addie Myers had 13 digs. Kyliah Pearson-Hasty had nine digs.

Yang had 23 assists and nine digs.

Gray Stone got nine kills from Zoee Mauldin and 16 digs from Avery Smith.

Morgan Burnside and Arlee Stevens combined for 29 assists.

Salisbury gets a chance to bounce back on Tuesday against North Rowan.

CONCORD — East Rowan handled Northwest Cabarrus on the road on Monday for a South Piedmont Conference win.

East won 25-14, 25-21 and 25-14.

The Trojans challenged the Mustangs in the second set and were tied at 19-all before East took charge. A kill by setter Jacee Eudy and an ace by Leigan Lusk ended that set.

Cameron Ostle had 10 kills for the Mustangs (14-6, 7-3). Alli Corl had eight.

Lusk had three aces and five blocks. Seeley Adams had three blocks.

Jordan Dry had 18 digs. Ostle had 13.

Eudy had 20 assists.

LANDIS — South Rowan had no trouble against South Piedmont Conference opponent Robinson and won 25-8, 25-7 and 25-20 on Monday.

The Raiders (10-4, 7-3) are tied for third with East Rowan.

Meredith Faw had 10 kills for South. Danica Krieg had six, Clancy Street had five, and Laney Beaver had four.

Faw had four aces and nine digs.

Avery Fisher had 14 digs. Meghan Eagle had nine, and Campbell Withers and Beaver had five each.

Eagle had 17 assists.

HUNTERSVILLE — Lake Norman Charter stayed undefeated in the South Piedmont Conference on Monday with a 25-9, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-12 win against West Rowan.

London Stewart had 12 kills for the Knights. Ella Landman had 10.

West (5-8, 5-5) takes on second-place Carson on Wednesday.
