The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance in identifying a man who is suspected of setting fire to a home near China Grove.

The incident occurred on August 18, when a resident of a home in the 900 block of Weaver Road was alerted to a man outside of his home by cameras, according to Captain Mark McDaniel, public information officer for the sheriff’s office. The man appeared to be walking up to the building with a fuel canister in his hand.

A fire then began which the resident was able to put out, said McDaniel. There was minimal fire damage to an outbuilding and damaged the grille and hood of a Ford F250 pickup truck.
