Man attempts to strangle woman in moving car

An Arizona man was arrested by Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies after he allegedly tried to strangle a woman in the car with him.

Reports say Steven Christensen, 55, of Mesa, Arizona, was traveling from Cabarrus County into Rowan on Umberger Road, Mount Ulla about 4:57 p.m. Sept. 19 when a female passenger tried to get out of the vehicle. Christensen allegedly refused to allow her to get out, at one point trying to strangle her. Information was presented to the magistrate’s office and Christensen was charged with assault by strangulation, interfering with emergency communication, communicating threats and felonious restraint. He was not given a bond by the magistrate due to a previous case. He was arraigned and given a bond of $80,000.

• An illegal dump site was located on Bostian Road, China Grove on Sept. 19 at 2:55 p.m.

• A burglary causing damage to a business on Vanderbuilt Drive reportedly occurred between 3 a.m. Sept. 19 and 11:16 a.m. Sept. 20.

• A burglary of a residence on Karriker Road, Kannapolis reportedly occurred between noon and 12:20 p.m. Sept. 21.

• Kristopher Rae Seymens, 40, was arrested Sept. 19 and charged with felony possession of cocaine, carrying a concealed gun and following too close. The arrest was the result of a traffic stop on I-85 in China Grove by RSCO’s Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team (SOCAT) division. During the traffic stop, deputies located two firearms and several controlled substances. He was given a $25,000 secured bond.

• Kirt Thomas Casper, 39, was arrested Sept. 19 and charged with operating a motor vehicle without insurance and driving with a license revoked due to impairment. He was held without bond.

• Destin Adrian Shepherd, 33, was arrested Sept. 20 and charged with two counts of assault on a female and crime of domestic violence.

• Elijah Daviaun Reid, 20, was arrested Sept. 20 and charged with possession of stolen goods and possession of up to 1/2 ounce of a schedule VI controlled substance. He was given a $5,000 bond.

• Randy Lee Gragg, 67, was arrested Sept. 21 and charged with resist, obstruct or delay of an officer. He was given a $1,000 bond.

• An attempted theft of a motor vehicle on Willow Road reportedly occurred about 5:10 a.m. Sept. 20.

• A theft from a motor vehicle on Cedarwood Road reportedly occurred between midnight and noon Sept. 20.

• Property damage from a hit and run on Faith Road at East Innes Street reported occurred at 5:15 p.m. Sept. 20.

• Property damage from a traffic accidddnt on Sycamore Road at Ashbrook Road reportedly occurred at 5:28 p.m. Sept. 20.

• A 21-year-old pedestrian suffered injuries as a result of a hit and run on Statesville Boulevard at 5:36 p.m. Sept. 20.

• Property damage from a hit and run on Jake Alexander Boulevard West reportedly occurred about 11:15 p.m. Sept. 20.

• A larceny from a motor vehicle on Willow Road reportedly occurred between 11:59 a.m. Sept. 20 and 9:43 a.m. Sept. 21. Total estimated loss was $100.

• Property damage due to a hit and run on South Main Street reportedly occurred about 1:07 p.m. Sept. 21.

• Property damage from a hit and run on South Main Street reportedly occurred between 2:15 and 2:52 p.m. Sept. 21.

• A larceny from a property on West Innes Street reportedly occurred between 1:30 and 3 p.m. Sept. 21. Total estimated loss was $100.

• A burglary at Skinny Wheels Bike Shop on West Innes Street reportedly occurred about 10:35 pm. Sept. 21. Total estimated loss was $2,000.

• A truck was stolen from a property on Foster Lane at 12:20 a.m. Sept 22 and then returned.

• A burglary at Gunpowder and Lead, South Main Street, reportedly occurred about 2:39 a.m. Sept. 22. Total estimated loss was $70.

• An assault on Brenner Avenue at Old Wilksboro Road reportedly occurred about 5:20 a.m. Sept. 22.

• A theft from a motor vehicle on Admiral Drive reportedly occurred between 11:59 a.m. Sept. 21 and 9 a.m. Sept. 22.

• Nicole Louise Coursey, 38, was arrested Sept. 20 and charged with misdemeanor larceny.

• Brandon Leevon Mason, 34, was arrested Sept. 21 and charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

• Trevor Jon A. Elwood, 26, was arrested Sept. 21 and charged with misdemeanor second-degree trespassing.
