Garage destroyed in overnight fire, house undamaged

ROCKWELL — A fire in a 12×24 detached garage overnight was a total loss, but firefighters were able to prevent spread to the house, and officials say no one was injured or displaced.

The fire was reported about 1:28 a.m. Monday morning in the 1100 block of Cottonwood Road.

The homeowner had connected power to the garage of the dwelling but firefighters said they were able to isolate it from the home during the fire.

Firefighters from Rockwell Rural were joined by Faith, Granite Quarry, Rockwell City, Bostian Heights, South Salisbury, Rimer, Mt. Mitchell, Rowan EMS, Coldwater, China Grove, Northeast Cabarrus, Liberty, and Rowan RS. Duke Energy was contacted to help with the electrical.

Officials said personal property was destroyed and the cause remains under investigation.
