High school tennis roundup: Cougars win on Senior Day

CHINA GROVE — While neither team has had a banner girls tennis season, rivals Carson and East Rowan staged a good battle on Carson’s Senior Day on Monday.
The Cougars, who honored Allie Martin and Sophie Lipe, won 5-4 in the South Piedmont Conference match.
Martin clinched Carson’s victory at No. 1 doubles when she and Maggie Cooper won an 8-6 battle.
Martin, Cooper, Ava Brown and Mckenzie Drye won singles matches for Carson.
Mady Morris and Caroline Quick were singles winners for the Mustangs.
Carolina Quick/Morris and Ava Quick/Layla Cooper won in doubles for East.

THOMASVILLE — Salisbury’s girls tennis team won 9-0 at East Davidson on Monday in a Central Carolina Conference match.
The Hornets (10-1, 8-0) are rolling to another league championship.
Lucy Barr, Meredith Williams, Addison Griffith, Lola Koontz, Anna Kate Goodman and Gabriella Fatovic won singles matches.
Barr/Williams, Griffith/Koontz and Fatovic/Angela Maria Boileau won doubles matches.
The closest match was an 8-4 decision for Griffith/Koontz at No. 2 doubles.

West Rowan has enjoyed a strong SPC season and breezed to a 9-0 win at Robinson on Monday. The Falcons will be a playoff team.

South Rowan lost to a strong Northwest Cabarrus team 8-1 on Monday.
The Trojans are second in the SPC.
Olivia Maynor won for South at No. 3 singles.
Sophie Steedley and Maynor lost 8-5 in the No. 1 doubles match.
South’s Annabel Melton lost a close match at No. 5 singles.
