Between Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook, and other social media platforms, we have all been exposed to the elaborate world of arts and crafts. Whether you are a willing participant, or simply wish you could be half as creative as those content creators, we have all spent countless hours watching video after video on different crafts and how to make them.
Adults interested in learning how to create their very own vinyl decorations can visit Rowan Public Library (RPL) Headquarters in Salisbury on Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. to learn how to use the Cricut machine. You will get the chance to create your own vinyl decals using acrylic paint, glitter and other mediums to personalize your very own mug. All materials will be provided; registration is required. All you need to do to register is by contacting Ici Pozo at Itziar.pozo@rowancountync.gov or 704-216-8230. This program will be the perfect opportunity to create some personalized gifts for the upcoming holidays.
For additional inspiration on any future craft ideas, visit the non-fiction section — shelf location may vary based on the subject, but the general location can be found in the 745s. Titles such as “Rock art!: painting and crafting with the humble pebble” by Denise Scicluna and “DIY resin crafting projects: a beginner’s guide to making clear resin jewelry, paperweights, coasters and other keepsakes” by Theodora Petkova are two great ways to start to explore your creative side. If you are anything like me, just the simple thought of being creative can be overwhelming; however, the possibilities are endless and finding a starting point can make all the difference.
In the event you do not find what you are looking for, feel free to make suggestions or fill out RPL’s Suggest Materials form (https://www.rowancountync.gov/FormCenter/Library-12/Materials-Request-57) located on RPL’s website under the “I want to” tab. In addition to suggesting a material, patrons can use the Online Catalog by visiting Rowan Public Library’s website (www.RowanPublicLibrary.org) and simply type what you are looking for in the white search bar at the top of the screen, and then click Catalog Search. This feature will allow you to search for titles using keywords such as “crafts, arts and crafts, DIY, etc.) For more information about books or eBooks about crafting, call 980-432-8670 or visit your nearest RPL branch.
