High school tennis roundup: West, South, Carson, Salisbury win on Wednesday

LANDIS – South Rowan’s girls tennis team has a chance for a winning season and beat Central Cabarrus 6-2 on Wednesday for another South Piedmont Conference victory.

Sophie Steedley, Olivia Maynor, Annabell Melton and Audrey Daniel won singles matches. Melton pulled out a win in a third-set tiebreaker.

The Raiders added wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

CONCORD — West Rowan got what may have been its best win of the season on Wednesday at Concord.

The Falcons had lost 5-4 earlier in the season to the Spiders, but changed that result in the rematch.

There were a lot of tight matches. Olyvia Brown won on a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles. Autumn Yount won a 7-5, 6-4 match at No. 1 singles.

Yount and Emma Crider won at No. 1 doubles. Laney and Lucy Moore won at No. 3 doubles.

LEXINGTON — Salisbury stayed unbeaten in the Central Carolina Conference with Wednesday’s easy win at Lexington.

The Hornets had walkovers at 5 and 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Lucy Barr, Meredith Williams. Addison Griffith and Lola Koontz won their singles matches without losing a game. Barr/Williams and Griffith/Koontz were winning doubles teams.

CONCORD — Carson beat Robinson 6-3 in Wednesday’s South Piedmont Conference action.

Allie Martin, Maggie Cooper, Sophie Lipe and Caylee Sheets won singles matches. Sheets staged a comeback after losing the first set.

Martin/Cooper and Lipe/Sheets won in doubles.
