SALISBURY — West Davidson’s football team hung with Salisbury for a half, but the Hornets pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 42-7 Central Carolina Conference victory on Monday.
Coached by former South Rowan standout Brian Billings, the Green Dragons (3-2, 0-1) are the best they’ve been in a while and they were able to run the ball and keep the pigskin away from the Hornets for much of the first half. Hank Webb’s touchdown pass to Macari House gave the Hornets a 7-0 halftime lead.
Salisbury (5-1, 2-0) was able to push its lead to 21-0 in the third quarter with Webb’s touchdown passes to Evan Koontz and Josh Allen.
Webb ran for a touchdown for 28-0.
After Evan Everhart scored on the ground for the Green Dragons with about eight minutes left, Salisbury answered with a rushing touchdown by Jackson Sparger.
Bryce Dalton got the Hornets’ final touchdown on a fumble recovery.
Webb is on track to have one of the best seasons ever for a one-year starting quarterback in Rowan County. He has 14 touchdown passes, with two interceptions. He’s run for two touchdowns and two 2-point conversions, and he’s kicked nine field goals and 24 extra points.
Sophomore QB Carson Correll played well for the Green Dragons. He threw for 68 yards and ran for 91. West Davidson totaled 199 rushing yards on 33 attempts.
A trip to South Davidson is next for the Hornets. West Davidson plays Thomasville on Friday.
