HS VOLLEYBALL
CHINA GROVE – Carson won 25-21, 25-16 and 25-14 against Salisbury in non-conference volleyball played on Monday.
Ashley Yang had 22 assists and 11 digs for the Hornets.
Ava Morris had 12 kills and 10 digs.Addie Myers had nine digs. Dayami Acevedo had five kills and 14 digs.
Acevedo played for Carson coach Kelan Rogers at Southeast Middle School and greeted him with a hug.
HS GIRLS TENNIS
Salisbury (12-1) won 8-1 against Gray Stone on Monday in a non-conference match that was more competitive than it sounds.
There were lots of extended matches, and they finished around 9 p.m.
The Central Carolina Conference champion Hornets lost only at No. 2 doubles, where London Gray and Natalie Niederer won for the Knights.
Salisbury’s Lucy Barr, Meredith Williams, Addison Griffith, Lola Koontz, Anna Kate Goodman and Gabriella Fatovic won in singles.
Barr/Williams and Goodman/Fatovic were winning doubles teams.
HS BOYS SOCCER
CONCORD — West Rowan surprised Northwest Cabarrus 3-2 on Monday for its first South Piedmont Conference win of the season.
Zach Taylor, Daniel Hernandez and Rene Roque scored for the Falcons.
Will Beecham had an assist. Nathan Freeman made four saves for West.
• West’s jayvees took a 2-1 win against the Trojans.
MISENHEIMER — Salisbury lost 2-1 to Gray Stone in Monday’s non-conference soccer match.
It was the first loss for the Hornets (12-1-3).
Salisbury scored early when David Austin sent a long ball that Hines Busby tucked past the keeper.
Gray Stone tied the match three minutes later, and it was 1-all at halftime.
Gray Stone countered Salisbury pressure and forced an own-goal with just 2:22 minutes left in the match for the win.
Anthony Barvanov provided the offense for Gray Stone (5-4-3).
“We haven’t practiced in weeks, and it really showed tonight,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said. “We played 15 of 20 guys on the roster and are desperate for a spark. Hopefully, we can find it before Wednesday when we play North Rowan.”
