Endorsements for school board and state school superintendent

Americans are fortunate to have boundless educational opportunities for ourselves and our families. In Rowan County, we have the opportunity to choose a traditional public school or charter school, parochial school or private school, online school or homeschool. Each parent decides what is best for their children. Regardless of what choices one makes for their family, we all have the opportunity to vote for the North Carolina State Superintendent of Public Instruction. I strongly support Mo Greene for that role. First and foremost because he has previously served in a similar role as the superintendent of Guilford County Schools, the third largest school district in the state. A graduate of Duke University School of Law, he also served as counsel for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board and most recently as executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation which focuses on, among other things, ensuring high-quality public education access across North Carolina. Mo Green has proven experience in public education leadership which is essential for our state’s top educator.

At a local level, I encourage you to pay close attention to our county school board election. I am proud to support Bryan Wymbs for school board. Bryan is the parent of Salisbury High School alumni (and state-champion track athletes). Additionally he has served as a volunteer coach, mentor and tutor across multiple RSS schools. I have had the pleasure of working with Bryan on many fundraising and teacher appreciation projects as fellow members of SHS PTSA. Bryan is passionate about and dedicated to improving our community and our schools.

Finally, I urge you to vote no on our local board of education’s ballot referendum seeking to create partisan races for Rowan County school board. Our children’s schools deserve the best leader’s regardless of political party affiliation and without partisan acrimony.
