High school cross country: Good times at Wendy’s

CHARLOTTE — Carson’s Jorge Clemente-Garcia and Eric Gillis were among the top male runners at Saturday’s Wendy’s Invitational, a major cross country meet held at McAlpine Creek.

Clemente-Garcia clocked 16:07 for second place. Gillis finished fourth in 16:28. Carson’s Chance Simmons ran 19:02.

South Rowan’s Ethan Overby was 18th in 17:36. South also had Garrison Raper (19:00), Peyton Nail (19:08), Sam Noe (19:14) and Keaton Sloop (19:52) coming in under 20 minutes.

West Rowan’s Luke Henson was 24th in 17:51. West also had a flock of runners finishing under 20 seconds — Wayne Hall (18:46), Bryson Bentley (18:56), Jayden Romero (19:34) and Rafael Quintero (19:43).

East Rowan’s Jaden Eudy ran 19:00. Noah Trexler (19:14), Peyton Scarboro (19:18) and Cooper Doty (19:55) were next.

A.L. Brown’s Logan Keasler ran 17:39. Rylan Craft clocked 19:40, while Johnny Delgado finished in 19:42.

South Rowan freshman Hope Julian paced Rowan girls. She was seventh in 19:24. South’s Madalynn Gulledge ran 22:45.

Kara Crotts (22:29) and Emily Landaverde (22:50) paced Carson.

Sadie Featherstone (22:01) led East Rowan.

Makagbeh Jabateh (22:13) led West Rowan.
