High school tennis: Regional qualifiers determined

LEXINGTON — Salisbury qualified four players for the 2A Midwest Regional.
The doubles team of Lucy Barr/Meredith Williams won the Central Carolina Conference Tournament and posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory against teammates Addison Griffith/Lola Koontz in the 2A championship match.
Three singles players and two doubles teams from the CCC qualified for the 2A Midwest Regional to be played at Pfeiffer University on Oct. 17-18, so both Hornet doubles teams advanced.
Salisbury’s Gabrielle Fatovic lost a close match in the tourney quarterfinals. Salisbury’s Anna Kate Goodman lost 6-4, 6-4 in the third-place match to West Davidson’s Emerson Lemley.
West Davidson’s Deanna Loftis was the 2A tournament singles champ. She won a three-set struggle against East Davidson’s Nikki Beal in the championship match.
The CCC only has three 1A teams. so it sends only the singles and doubles champion to regional play. North Rowan’s Olivia Neely lost a three-set match in the semifinals. Jasmin Espinal also lost in the semifinals.
South Davidson’s Whitney Smith was 1A singles champion. South Davidson also had the 1A doubles champ.

CONCORD — As a nine-team league, the South Piedmont Conference sends a lot of players to the regional, but it’s still tough to qualify. There are a lot of good teams in the league.
Lake Norman Charter is No. 1 in the 3A West RPI rankings. Northwest Cabarrus is No. 4. West Rowan is No. 11. Concord (15), South Rowan (22) and Central Cabarrus (30) also should be playoff teams.
The league gets seven singles berths, and six doubles teams make it to the 3A Midwest Regional that will be held at Les Myers Park in Concord.
South Rowan advanced a singles player and a doubles team.
Bella Caraccio made it in singles, while the Sophie Steedley/Olivia Maynor combo qualified in doubles.
West Rowan’s top doubles team qualified, as Autumn Yount/Emma Crider placed third in the South Piedmont Conference Tournament.
Carson’s Allie Martin qualified in singles.
Martin, Caraccio, Steedley, Crider and Yount were announced as all-conference players.
