High school volleyball roundup: Four Rowan teams advance to semifinals

HUNTERSVILLE — South Rowan’s volleyball team won against West Rowan in a first-round matchup in the South Piedmont Conference Tournament on Monday.

The fourth-seeded Raiders (15-8) lost the first set but came back for a 23-25, 25-16, 25-14 and 26-16 victory to advance to Tuesday’s semifinals at Carson.

Meredith Faw had six kills and 24 digs.

Avery Fisher had seven kills and 17 digs. Meghan Eagle had seven kills, 10 digs and 13 assists/

Danica Krieg had seven kills and eight digs. Raegan Shell had 16 assists and 11 digs.

Fifth-seeded West is out of the tournament but is expected to make the 3A state playoffs.

CHINA GROVE — East Rowan won against Northwest Cabarrus in a first-round matchup in the SPC Tournament.

The third-seeded Mustangs rolled 25-9, 25-20 and 25-18 over the sixth-seeded Trojans for their 20th win.

Cameron Ostle had 13 kills for the Mustangs. Alli Corl had eight kills, while Leigan Lusk had six.

Jacee Eudy had 12 digs, while Jordan Dry had 11.

Eudy had 28 assists. Dry handled the most serve-receive chances.

East advanced to Tuesday’s semifinals at Carson.

CHINA GROVE — Carson won its 10th straight match by pounding Robinson on Monday in a first-round SPC Tournament matchup.

The second-seeded Cougars romped 25-9, 25-7 and 25-14 over the seventh-seeded Bulldogs and advanced to a Tuesday semifinal on their homecourt.

Top-seeded Lake Norman Charter won easily against No. 8 seed Central Cabarrus in the other first-round SPC tournament.

SALISBURY — Salisbury obliterated Thomasville with 34 aces in a first-round Central Carolina Conference matchup on Monday.

The Hornets advanced to Tuesday’s semifinals at West Davidson with an easy 25-9, 25-3 and 25-7 victory over the seventh-seeded Bulldogs.

Ashley Yang had 16 aces, while Dayami Acevedo had eight.

Ava Morris had seven kills for the second-seeded Hornets (12-7).

Yang had 17 assists.

Yang, Acevedo and Kyliah Pearson-Hasty had eight digs each.

Sixth-seeded North Rowan ended a 2-13 season with a 25-16, 25-22 and 25-19 loss to third-seeded East Davidson in a first-round CCC matchup on Monday.
