ROCKWELL — An early morning fire that broke out in a home at the end of Blackwelder Farm Road has left two residents and their three dogs without a home, but also without injuries, according to officials.
The fire, which broke out just before 3 a.m., may possibly be connected to the use of a wood stove, but the fire remains under investigation and no official cause has been determined.
One of the residents suffered some smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene. The Red Cross was called in to assist and nearby family members were also on scene to help. All three of the couple’s Chihuahuas were located and are fine. Animals from surrounding farms voiced their objections to the early wake-up call as well.
The fire had several hot spots that kicked up after the initial fire was knocked down, and crews and apparatus from Bostian Heights, Rockwell Rural, Rockwell City, Faith, South Salisbury, Rimer, Mt. Mitchell, Landis, Kannapolis, Gold Hill and China Grove all responded.
Because of the relatively remote location, tankers staged part way down the one-lane gravel road to feed engines at the property itself.
