A Rowan County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a traffic accident on South Main Street near Airport Road Tuesday just after 4:30 p.m.

According to reports, the deputy was attempting to turn around on South Main Street to intercept a vehicle that was reportedly driving recklessly and was hit by another vehicle traveling in the turning lane.

The deputy was taken to a local hospital for evaluation but sustained no major injuries and was treated and released, according to the department spokesperson, Captain Mark McDaniel.
