First Calvary Baptist Church celebrating 94th Women’s Day

SALISBURY — Sunday, Oct. 27 will be the 94th Annual Women’s Day celebration during First Cavalry Baptist Church’s 11:00 am service. The theme this year is “Women Stepping Into Victory” and Judges 4:9. 

First Calvary Baptist Church, located at 400 S. Long St., Salisbury, will have Dr. Latonya McIver Penny for the Women’s Day guest speaker. LaTonya N. McIver Penny is a native of Leasburg. She is the senior pastor of Belonging Fellowship Church in Mebane.

She is a graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in communication. She continued her education by earning a master’s degree in teaching from East Carolina University, her master’s degree in divinity from Wake Forest University and her doctorate in ministry from Campbell University.

Penny is part of the Divine Nine, an association of historically Black sororities and fraternities, as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She is involved in many organizations pertaining to children with disabilities and the fair treatment of children. She is married to Minister Charles W. Penny II and together they are the proud parents of twins.
