Shots fired call leads to lock down at Catawba

SALISBURY – A report of possible shots fired came in to Salisbury police around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday that was within three blocks of the Catawba College campus.

Out of an abundance of caution, the college and several other schools in the area were immediately placed on lockdown while officers conducted a thorough investigation, according to a release from the city of Salisbury.

The lockdown notice from Catawba College to students read “Notification to shelter in place. There is an emergency near campus. Remain where you are and shelter there until further notice.”

The college issued an “all clear” message within about thirty minutes, according to its social media.

A release issued by the city at 3:30 pm. stated that “at this time, no injuries or property damage related to a shooting have been identified,” and when contacted, police said the report was only that what sounded like shots had been heard. All schools’ campus operations have returned to normal.
