Over the last several months, beginning in July, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of numerous commercial burglaries. Reports of break-ins and thefts at gas stations and other small businesses initially frustrated investigators.

Businesses included in the list of those affected included Peeples Bark and Stone on Mooresville Road, the Raja Mart on Mooresville Road, and Village Grocery on U.S. 601, and items such as computers, money and cigarettes were reported stolen.

During an expansive investigation, detectives learned there were similar cases in South Carolina and partnered with detectives in that state. Together, investigators were able to develop a suspect profile, and applied for and received a warrant in October for 61-year-old Andre Heaggins.

Heaggins was located by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, arrested Oct. 25 and charged with four counts of breaking and entering, three counts of larceny after breaking and entering and three counts of injury to real property for his offenses in Rowan County. He was also charged with three counts of failure to appear and as a fugitive from justice. His total bond here in Rowan is $460,000, and he still faces outstanding charges in South Carolina.
