KANNAPOLIS — Kannapolis was officially incorporated in 1984 so it’s time for a 40th birthday party.
On Nov. 6, 1984, citizens of an unincorporated area traditionally known as Kannapolis voted to officially become an incorporated city. Over the last 40 years, the city has grown and flourished into a vibrant hub for healthy living, economic growth and industry-leading research.
In honor of the anniversary, residents and visitors are invited to stop by the Swanee Theater downtown between 4 and 6 p.m. for cupcakes, balloons and to sign the city’s birthday card, which will be displayed at city hall.
Custom, commemorative ornaments have also been commissioned to help celebrate the anniversary. The ornaments were hand painted by Theresa of Heart’s Gifts in Kannapolis and feature a special 40th anniversary version of the city’s logo. Ornaments can be ordered for $25 each, and there is a limited supply. They will need to be picked up in person from the Parks and Recreation Department on the third floor of city hall.
