High school girls cross country: South’s Julian runs 19:40 in first state meet

KERNERSVILLE — South Rowan freshman Hope Julian clocked 19:40.48 in Saturday’s 3A State Championships for cross country held at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex.

Julian finished 14th. She edged Central Davidson’s Jillian Parks (15th, 19:45), who won the 3A Midwest Regional in Salisbury. Julian was regional runner-up.

East Rowan senior Sadie Featherstone ran 21:43 in her final high school race and was 69th. Carson senior Emily Landaverde was right behind her and was 72nd in 21:46.

First Flight junior Morgan Miller was a repeat state champion in 18:04.

The fastest freshman was June Leis of A.C. Reynolds. She was eighth in 19:13.

North Lincoln had two runners in the top four and easily won its fourth straight team championship with a score of 56.

First Flight was second with 125.

Lake Norman Charter, the 3A Midwest Regional champ, placed fifth in the team scoring.
