A two-vehicle accident on Sherrills Ford Road just before 6 a.m. Monday has left one person dead, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

According to Trooper Whit Efird, Mason Ray Lenair Hollar, 23, was driving east on Sherrills Ford Road near the roundabout when he crossed the center line and his car hit another vehicle that was traveling west head on. Hollar was killed in the crash, and his family has been notified. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Because Hollar is deceased, no charges will be filed, Efird said.

Efird did not have the make and model of the cars available yet, but said that information will come when full reports are filed. Sherrills Ford Road was closed down for several hours between White Road and Grayson Drive following the crash, and the school bus garage was notified of the closure so buses could be re-routed if need be. DOT, which had construction scheduled on White Road, postponed an additional road closure until Sherrills Ford was reopened so students would not be delayed. Sherrills Ford reopened just before 9 a.m.
