SALISBURY — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and its students recently benefited from involvement with Eli Lilly and Company and its annual Global Day of Service.
Student participation is key to the success of these types of service events, and students took part in various service activities with Lilly volunteers, including the campus market (free food and resource pantry for students) and various civic engagement projects. A “Project Champion” was appointed to ensure student engagement and success across all the service activities.
“We are deeply appreciative of Lilly’s commitment to service and their support of Rowan-Cabarrus,” said Dr. Carol S. Spalding, president of Rowan-Cabarrus. “The efforts of their volunteers have made a meaningful impact on our campus and have enhanced our ability to serve our students and the wider community.”
Over 150 participants contributed their time and effort to various projects during Lilly’s Global Day of Service at Rowan-Cabarrus. At North Campus, volunteers focused on campus beautification efforts, while another group of volunteers worked on similar projects at South Campus. In addition, volunteers supported the campus market (free food and resource pantry for students) at the North and South campuses.
Additionally, volunteers engaged in civic engagement activities, further supporting the College’s mission to foster community involvement and growth.
Since 2008, thousands of Lilly employees across 65 countries have gathered — in person and virtually — to volunteer within their communities as part of Lilly’s Global Day of Service. This all-day event prioritizes local organizations and nonprofits whose work supports the company’s mission to promote healthy lives, healthy minds and healthy communities. Many of Lilly’s Global Day of Service projects focus on health, STEM education, community enrichment, food insecurity and more.
