MISENHEIMER — Gray Stone Day School held its annual National Honor Society induction ceremony on Oct. 17 in the Bud Singletary Gymnasium. NHS is an organization that provides students with knowledge and skills to become transformational leaders in their school and community. The organization is built on four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership and character. Students who demonstrate these traits and skills are selected by a faculty council.
A ceremony led by current members on the National Honor Society tapped 32 new students for membership. Bladen Goodman gave a warm welcome followed by Jeff Walter, high school principal. 2024 graduate Mark Lappin and former NHS member was a guest speaker. Officers Hudson Sharp, Evan Barber, Georgia Sangster and Spencer Lambert each spoke on the NHS pillars. Lambert presented the new inductees.
“Being selected into membership of the National Honor Society is an earned honor,” Lambert said. “While GPA is an important piece, there is a real responsibility that comes with membership. Members must be dedicated to organization commitments and actively participate in service all while maintaining academic excellence in the classroom.”
Club advisor Heather Ferguson added, “Membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors awarded to a high school student. It is also an ongoing responsibility and an obligation to continue to demonstrate the qualities that resulted in their selection. I count on these students to be role models and leaders in our school.”
