Retirement reception honors NCDOT official

A retirement reception was held for Pat Ivey, District 9 engineer, which is over Rowan County, following a career that has spanned almost 25 years at the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The special event was hosted by the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 12 at the Paul E. Fisher Gateway Building. Terry Osborne, chair of the board and general manager of the Rowan-Kannapolis ABC board, led the meeting with Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander and Rowan County Commission Chair Greg Edds presenting proclamations in Ivey’s honor.

Originally from Reidsville in Rockingham County, Ivey graduated from N.C. State University in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

He is a registered professional engineer and began his career with the NCDOT in May of 1986 serving as assistant district engineer in Graham.

Ivey also served as district engineer in Reidsville and division operations engineer in Greensboro.

In May of 2000, Ivey became the Division 9 engineer in Winston-Salem, where he was responsible for the administration of all project development, maintenance and construction programs in Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Rowan and Stokes counties.

He was also involved with the planning, design and administration of several high-profile projects in Division 9 including the widening of I-85 in Davidson and Rowan counties, the I-85 Yadkin River Veterans’ Memorial Bridge, the Business 40 Improvement project or the Salem Parkway and the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway, which is the future I-74.

Ivey resides in Kernersville and is an active member and elder of The Crossing Church. He is married to Linda Ivey, who is a retired public school teacher, with two grown children and four grandchildren.
