SALISBURY — Actions in Faith & Justice continues the Focus on Food Security Series with a free documentary film screening of filmmaker Eternal Polk’s award winning documentary, “Gaining Ground: The Fight for Black Land.”
Polk is a two-time Emmy-nominated director & writer. He has won 16 awards and his debut feature film Gaining Ground: The Fight for Black Land has been accepted into 17 film festivals, winning nine awards and one honorable mention.
Polk describes his work as “Intimate, nuanced and intentional while placing subjects on a pedestal to display their humanity.”
He notes that the film “examines the causes, effects and what is being done to fight the exploitation …and how landowners are reclaiming their agricultural legacy and creating paths to generational wealth.”
The film presents the little known history of land dispossession in the United States. It offers insight into historical bases of our nation’s hunger challenges and brings the complexities of food justice to light. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at Rowan County Public Library, located at 201 W. Fisher St. in Salisbury. The event is free and all are welcome.
