College football: Virginia Union repeats as CIAA champion

SALEM, Va. — Virginia Union’s football team beat Virginia State 17-13 on Saturday in the CIAA championship game.
Virginia Union had lost to Virginia State 35-28 in the final game of the regular season, but won a more defensive-minded struggle in a rematch played at a neutral site in front of 511 fans.
Virginia Union linebacker Jabril Norman (Salisbury) made three tackles, including one for loss.
Virginia Union running back Jada Byers was the MVP. He rushed 32 times for 178 yards and a touchdown.
Virginia Union won back-to-back CIAA titles for the first time since 1982 and 1983.
The Division II playoff berths and seeds will be announced on Sunday night.
