CHINA GROVE — A.L. Brown’s girls basketball team pulled away in the second half to beat Carson 49-38 on Thursday.
The Wonders (2-0) led by two points at halftime.
“We played a good first half,” Carson coach Chloe Monroe said. “Played really hard and made our free throws. But the second half was rough. We didn’t play as well together, and we didn’t make shots.”
Rylee Hedrick led Carson (0-2) with 16 points. Allie Martin scored 12.
Michaela Buster and Alana Campbell led the Wonders with eight each. Myla McNeely and London Gray had seven.
A.L. Brown has only two returning varsity players. Everyone else is new.
“It’s a fresh start for us,” coach Kayla Crayton said. “The girls have played unselfishly as a team, and it’s been fun.”
Carson opened on Tuesday with a 34-27 loss at Mount Pleasant.
