CHINA GROVE — Depth is the big question mark for Carson’s boys basketball team, and one of the team’s stars spent Thursday with his sprained ankle in an ice bucket.
Jacob Mills scored 12 points Tuesday, including two big 3-pointers, in a battle at Mount Pleasant, but he was hobbling, and Carson didn’t use him in Thursday’s home game with A.L. Brown.
Carson was able to win without Mills. The Cougars built a 39-23 halftime lead and beat the Wonders 64-49.
Cobin Hales supplied some of those 3-pointers the Cougars (2-0) would have gotten from Mills. He made three for a career night.
Drew Neve amassed assists and rebounds on Tuesday, but struggled to finish in the paint. He finished against the Wonders, putting in 23 points. Carson’s post presence, Neve showed his versatility, stepping out to make two 3-pointers and going 10-for-10 from the foul line.
Jonah Drye made two 3-pointers and scored 17. CP Perry made two 3-pointers and scored 10. Jacob Rockwell contributed a 3-pointer, and Jaxson Martin had a bucket.
Carson got 19 points at the foul line.
TR Brewer scored 13 for the Wonders (1-1). BJ Ford scored nine.
The Wonders had a chilly start, scored only six in the first quarter and were in a 14-point hole.
