Arrest made in Granite Quarry store robbery

GRANITE QUARRY — Police have arrested a man following a robbery at Circle K on Nov. 15 in which the suspect used pepper spray to disable the clerk.

According to police reports, at 11:52 p.m. that Friday, police received a call about a robbery in progress on South Salisbury Avenue in Granite Quarry. The caller told the emergency dispatcher that the robber had used pepper spray on the clerk then removed an undetermined amount of cash from the drawer before running away.

Investigators from the Granite Quarry-Faith Police Department responded to the call with assistance from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the Rockwell Police Department.

Investigators did not find the suspect at the scene, but they were able to use information given to develop a suspect. Officials served a search warrant on a property in Granite Quarry where items, including clothing used during the robbery and the stolen cash drawer, were recovered.

As a result, Claymore Christopher Jones II was arrested and charged with common law robbery, and from a separate incident, resist/obstruct/delay of an officer.

An accomplice, Tiquan Jamal Summers, was charged with conspiracy to commit common law robbery, and, from a separate incident, misdemeanor larceny. Jones was arrested by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 18 for a parole violation while they were assisting the Granite Quarry-Faith Police Department with a shoplifting incident.

Both subjects were held in the Rowan County Detention Center under no bond pending a first appearance in Rowan County.
