LANDIS — For a while there, it looked like South Rowan senior Tristian Littlejohn might beat A.L. Brown by himself.
But Littejohn cooled off, the Wonders heated up after a dismal start, and they steamrolled South Rowan 87-50 in Friday’s non-conference boys basketball game.
For seven minutes, it was an even game. Littlejohn made three spinning buckets early and had the Raiders (0-2) ahead 6-5.
Corbin Goodman made South’s first 3-pointer for a 9-8 lead.
Jelani King made a driving and-one for an 11-all tie with 1:24 left in the quarter, but he missed the free throw, and the Wonders closed the period with a transition 3-pointer and a transition dunk to lead 16-11.
The Wonders opened the second quarter with a 13-0 run for 29-11 before King finally scored again for South.
The Wonders had a crushing 31-7 advantage in the quarter, and it was over at halftime, with the visitors in control, 47-18.
The Raiders had a similar experience in their opener at North Iredell. They played well in an even first quarter and were blown out in the second.
“We’ve got to focus right now on getting through that second quarter,” South head coach Daniel Blevins said.
A.L. Brown was bigger, faster — and shot the ball much better. That was a deadly combination. The Wonders made a dozen 3-pointers, while the Raiders were making only four. Carter Rohletter made two.
TR Brewer led the Wonders with 21 points, a merciful 21. He had 19 at halftime.
Caleb Ford scored 13.
