Zombies’ Night Out presents its Zombie Prom Saturday night with live music by The Graveyard Boulevard and Whiskey HellChild, with special guest guitarist Trey Spears playing on his 13th birthday.
There will be a brain eating contest (jello molds), Brain Hole and other games, a King and Queen contest, and prom photos. The Carolina Coffin Cruisers (a hearse club) will be also on hand.
Zombies’ Night Out also organizes the annual Downtown Salisbury Zombie Walk held in October.

Sculpture & Function
“Sculpture & Function: Two Bodies of Work” is a show at Pottery 101 featuring the pottery of Jeff Pender of Mooresville.
The opening reception is on Friday, May 4 from 6-9 p.m. The show will run until June 1.
‘Why We Sing’ concert
KANNAPOLIS — The Southern Piedmont Singers present “Why We Sing,” a modern masterworks concert featuring classic choral repertoire, spirituals, gospel and new choral masterpieces.
The performance is Sunday, May 6, at 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, 101 Vance St. Kannapolis, under the direction of Damien Evans. Free admission and reception.

Cabarrus Art Guild
CONCORD — The Cabarrus Art Guild will host an artist reception on Sunday, May 6 from 2-4 p.m. at the Depot at Gibson Mill, 325 McGill Ave. It is open to everyone and free of charge. There will be light refreshments and the spring exhibit awards will be presented.
Daniel Boone Festival
MOCKSVILLE — This Saturday, May 5, downtown Mocksville hosts the all-day Daniel Boone Family Festival — filled with history, shopping, crafters, and entertainment for the entire family. The festival lasts until 6 p.m.
The live entertainment at Junker’s Outdoor Theater includes The Flying Saucers (rockabilly and oldies) at 12:30 p.m.; The Folsom Prison Gang (Johnny Cash tunes) at 2 p.m.; Matt Dylan and Most Wanted (country) at 3:30 p.m.; Legend (70s-80s rock) at 5 p.m. These concerts are free; bring a chair.
There will be Fort Dobbs re-enactors and kid’s area. The Historical Society will lead tours that include Joppa Cemetery, Bear Creek Boone Site, Boone Trail Marker in Farmington and Pudding Ridge, the Jesse A. Clement House, Bull Hole, Veach’s Musterground, Revolutionary War hero Richmond Pearson’s gravesite, the Zachary Holt House and Village Museum of Cooleemee.

Improv show travels
HICKORY — Members of the Salisbury Improv company Now Are the Foxes join local actors at the Hickory Community Theatre to create a two-night session of comedy, “Whose Line is It Hickory?”
Foxes company members Jacob Asher, Cale Evans and Emily Bartsch have come up from Salisbury to join Hickory Theatre favorites Bill Boyd, Daniel Breuer, George Page and newcomer Diane Albers to form this nimble troupe.
Performances are Friday-Saturday, May 4-5 at 8 p.m. in the Firemen’s Kitchen at Hickory Community Theatre, 30 3rd St. NW in the HCT downtown Hickory complex.

Free Comic Book Day
Free Comic Book Day returns to The Comic Monstore this Saturday, May 5 at 813 Jake Alexander Blvd. S. (near Magic Mart). Participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores on this special day. Sponsors like DC Comics and Marvel Comics, provide specific books that are family-friendly and are a good starting point for new readers. Available titles will include Avengers, Transformers, Star Wars, Peanuts, Superman, The Smurfs, Sonic The Hedgehog and Spider-man to name a few.
St. John’s choirs perform musical benefit
The St. John’s Lutheran Church Men’s Chorus, directed by Rosemary Kinard, will present its 17th annual Spring Concert, “Sing When the Spirit Says Sing!” at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 13, in the sanctuary. Janie Rollins is accompanist.
The Inner Voices (18-voice ensemble) will also perform. Special guest performer will be Teresa Moore-Mitchell. Instrumentalists include Michelle Trivette, saxophone, Daniel Trivette and William Camps, percussion, and Rob Durocher, guest pianist.
Also featured will be the St. John’s Adult Handbell Choirs, The Luther Ringers and The Classic Ringers, directed by Kimberly Lentz.
The concert will feature traditional American selections for male voices, ranging from beloved spirituals to traditional gospel music to several newly-composed pieces.
A special tribute to the mothers in attendance will be included, and the audience will be invited to contribute to a special offering for Rowan Helping Ministries. This benefit performance is free and open to the public.
Reynolda House Community Day
WINSTON-SALEM — Reynolda House Museum of American Art hosts a free Community Day celebration on Saturday, May 5 from noon-3 p.m., themed around a Shakespearean pageant, and visitors are invited to enjoy a spring day of poetry, dance, food and games in the spirit of the pageants and outdoor dramas that took place on estates of the Country Place Era, including the Reynolda estate.
The historic house will be open for touring.
Outside, the Winston-Salem Festival Ballet will perform scenes from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and The Children’s Theatre of Winston-Salem will perform vignettes from several plays, including “Romeo and Juliet.”
