Ann Farabee: Are you busy?

This question is often asked, “Are you busy?”
We all may have the same thought, “Of course, I am busy.”
I read these words once, and think about them often: I have so much to do today that I need to spend the first three hours in prayer.
Something about those words resonates with me each time I read them.
This time of year between Thanksgiving and Christmas is what I think of as “the in between.”
When I was teaching, the reason was obvious. Students returned from Thanksgiving assuming we had moved directly into Christmas mode, and their excitement and behavior showed it. But, the easiest way for teachers to deal with that “in-between time” was to go with the flow and enjoy it, too.
But even now in a season of my life that is not quite as busy, it is still the busiest time of the year.
Proverbs 4:25 tells us to look straight ahead and fix our eyes on what lies before us. That sounds like we need to look straight ahead, not to the right or to the left and just keep moving forward.
Strangely enough, what we may go through may not always be as much for our good, as it is for the good of many. If we do not understand that, maybe we should write it down, save it and read it again one day as we are going through that season.
So, yes we are always busy. But, are we busy enough? Are we busy in the right way? Are we covering everything we need to do?
There are only 24 hours in a day and I rarely, if ever, run out of things I need to do.
As we head into 2025 and I look back, I remember as a child, looking at a future calendar and thinking that I would die in 2025 because I would be really old. It seemed so far away! I still often think about that magical year, and now it is almost here.
So, in retrospect, I choose to start my New Year’s Resolution during Thanksgiving. Feel free to join me. Here it is: I want to win more people to Christ! In doing so, one helps an individual to have an incredible life change — and a present and a future with Jesus! What greater gift could anyone receive this holiday season than the gift of Jesus?
Join me in praying for these four things:
-
Pray that God will put people in our path that we can help lead to Christ.
-
Pray that God will guide us to be spiritual mentors.
-
Pray that we always will stay in a spirit of prayer.
-
Pray that we will feast on the word of God daily.
Are we busy? Of course we are. It is perhaps the busiest time of the year. That normally means we are interacting with even more people. Let’s share Jesus.
