Senior Helpers of Concord recently sponsored their second annual Wii Bowling Tournament. The event included residents from the following facilities: Oak Park, Salisbury; Crescent Heights,Concord; Salisbury Gardens, Salisbury; Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, Salisbury; Churchill, Mooresville; Carillon, Salisbury; Genesis, Salisbury; Concord Place, Concord; St. Andrews, Concord; and Taylor Glen, Concord.
“At Senior Helpers, we believe area seniors should try to be involved in as many mental and physical activities as they care to be, and this tournament is a great chance to get out, interact, have some fun! It’s also a good way to sharpen the bowling stroke a little bit,” said Sandy Mullins, owner of Senior Helpers of Concord. “This is a fun event that is open to seniors of all physical ability levels — anyone can participate in a virtual tournament and all are welcome.”
The tournament was organized and implemented by Salisbury native Melissa Bullock, UNC-Charlotte gerontology intern. Over 48 residents and 12 staff and volunteers participated. The final match was held at Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks on April 20. The luncheon and social were sponsored by Lutheran Home and Subway on Klumac Road.
Team scores were submitted over a five-week period and the top two teams, Crescent Heights and Salisbury Gardens, competed for the title and trophy on April 20 as the other teams cheered them on. Crescent Heights took the honor of top score, with Salisbury Gardens following as a close second place. All participants received small individual trophies.
Crescent Heights team members included Phil Stanley, Andrew Whitted, Gene Irvin and Joy Williams. Salisbury Gardens team members included Donald Leichman, Patsy Lax, Brad Petterson, Anna Harner, Dean Ridenhour and Greer Marchand.
