High school girls basketball: McArthur leads North win

DENTON — The basketball season for North Rowan’s girls team began with a harsh 78-13 loss to Albemarle, but don’t worry about the Cavaliers.
They bounced back on Monday. North got Central Carolina Conference play started with a 62-40 road win at South Davidson and gave new head coach Mia Terry her first victory.
Krisstyle Stockton made a confident 3-pointer to get the Cavaliers (1-1, 1-0) on the scoreboard first, and Allanah McArthur scored for a 5-0 lead.
With North leading 7-2, Dasia Elder scored seven straight points for a 14-2 cushion, and the Cavaliers were on their way.
South Davidson (2-4, 0-1) got within 16-10 when North experienced a scoring drought early in the second quarter, but Elder made a big 3-pointer to get the Cavaliers going again.
McArthur scored 20 points, mostly on driving layups, some of them left-handed. Stockton got 14, while Elder added 10. Five more Cavaliers contributed points.
