College women’s basketball: Indians struggle vs. Eagles

SALISBURY — Catawba’s women’s basketball team didn’t have much go right on Saturday in an ugly 67-49 loss to Carson-Newman.
Carson-Newman (9-1, 7-1) is good, is ranked 10th nationally in Division II and shut down Catawba in front of 270 fans at Goodman Arena. The Eagles beat Catawba for the second time this season.
Catawba shot 32.5 percent, while turning it over 28 times and getting only four offensive rebounds. That was a deadly combination. Carson-Newman led 62-30 after three quarters. The Indians made it look closer with a 19-5 edge in the fourth quarter.
Lindsey Taylor scored 13 for the visitors.
Freshman Bailee Goodlett (North Rowan) led Catawba (7-4, 5-3) with 12 points. She was 7-for-8 from the foul line.
