LANDIS — South Rowan’s latest loss in boys basketball was more encouraging than discouraging.

The Raiders fell 69-49 to Northwest Cabarrus in Friday’s South Piedmont Conference action, but it was a pretty good ballgame. South (0-8, 0-4) lost for the 53rd straight time, but the Raiders competed and were never in danger of being running-clocked.

Jadon Moore got 17 mostly spectacular points, scoring on contested jumpers and hard-nosed drives. Corbin Goodman drilled four 3-pointers and scored 14 points.

Northwest (5-2, 3-0) is a good team and got lots of point-blank points on transition layups and offensive boards. Landon Rowe, a long, savvy shooter was tough for South to handle. He made several 3s and he added multiple three-point plays inside.

Goodman made a 3-pointer to start the scoring, but Northwest led 12-10 after a quarter.

Northwest built some 13-point leads in the second quarter, but South didn’t go away. South had a little flurry at the end of the half with a Goodman 3-pointer, a jumper by Moore (he got a kind bounce) and a layup by Moore after multiple Raiders got on the floor to claim a loose ball. South was down 29-23 at the half and had some momentum.

But Northwest came out and scored the first nine points of the second half to push its lead to 15, and that was that. The Trojans were in control, up 55-34, by the end of the third quarter.
