POOLETOWN — A fire at a home on Wyatt’s Grove Church Road Sunday morning completely consumed the residence, according to fire officials, but no one was injured. This was the second house fire in Pooletown in four days.
The Red Cross was called to provide assistance to one resident of the home this morning.
Officials in eastern Rowan County have responded to two fires inside of a week, and according to Pooletown Fire Chief Ryan Barkley, both were caused by inside heating fires.
In the first fire on December 19 in the Emerald Bay Subdivision on High Rock Lake, the homeowner had built a fire to help heat the home. Flames breached the firebox and spread inside the walls and and roof.
Sunday morning’s fire in the 2500 block of Wyatt’s Grove Church Road was in a home near Bringle Ferry Road. Firefighters were called to the mobile home at 10:03 a.m. Crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames, resulting in a total loss of the property.
Barkley said that the resident had been burning wood for heat inside and placed the hot embers outside on the back porch, causing that porch to catch fire.
Barkley reminded citizens to always safely discard hot embers from a fire in a metal container and to ensure they are not close to flammable materials. Especially in colder weather with recent winds, residents are encouraged to pay particular attention with fires.
In addition to the Pooletown Fire Department, Liberty, Gold Hill, Healing Springs, Rockwell Rural, Union, Rowan Rescue, and Rowan County EMS assisted. Neither fire resulted in any injuries or loss of life and both have been determined to be accidental.
