Second fire in Faith in two days

FAITH — Another residential fire in Faith broke out around 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon, following the Christmas eve fire that seriously damaged Love’s Auto Repair Shop and caused some moderate damage to the family’s house next door.

Thursday afternoon a fire at 256 Charter Way, a dead-end gravel road, was in a cabin that appears to have been used for storage instead of as a residential space, according to South Salisbury Fire Chief Jason Burnett. The fire was contained to the last cabin on the left at the end of the road. There were no reported injuries. Area fire departments did set up a tanker relay along Faith Road to provide water to the site.

Burnett said Andrew King of the Rowan County Fire Marshal’s office was on his way to investigate the possible cause of the fire around 4:15 p.m., but Burnett did say the structure was a complete loss.

The roof on the left side did fall in, and the fire fought back against complete control with hot spots continuing to crop up, so firefighters called for foam treatment about 4:30 p.m. Foam reportedly helps fully smother the fire and can be more effective than water in some circumstances. The fire department also called in a drone to get aerial shots of the scene.

Just after 5 p.m. some departments were able to clear the scene with the fire under control.
