The Kannapolis American Legion team beat Concord 12-6 on Monday in a Southern Division of Area III game played at Central Cabarrus.
Jarrin Hogue pounded out four hits for Post 115. Travis Watkins and Jordan Goodman had three hits each.
Goodman and Corey Seager knocked in three runs each.
Watkins pitched seven innings for the win.
Mooresville Post 66 won again on Monday, beating Mocksville 8-2 for a league victory.
Hunter Harvey pitched five innings. Ian Edmiston, Jack Edmiston and Jesse Seaford led Mooresville’s offense.
South Rowan’s game with Winston-Salem that was scheduled for tonight has been canceled.
Minor leagues
Kannapolis rallied to beat the Rome Braves 6-4 at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
The Intimidators (22-28) used a pair of three-run innings in the third and seventh to take the first game of a three-game series against the Braves (13-38).
Jason Van Skike earned the win with two scoreless innings. Kevan Smith had a two-run double.
Ryan Query (A.L. Brown, Catawba) is one of the catchers for the Braves, although he didn’t play on Monday.
The series continues tonight at CMC-NorthEast.
Local golf
In the Peggy Kirk Bell Golf Tour event that concluded at the Country Club of Salisbury on Monday, Jessica Porvasnik (Ohio) was the winner at 2-over. She shot rounds of 65-75-73 — 215.
Salisbury freshman Isabella Rusher tied for 20th. She shot 78-79-76 — 233.
Salisbury senior Lily Yatawara shot 80-88-79 — 247 and tied for 45th.
Eighth-grader Grace Yatawara shot 86-87-79 — 252 and tied for 49th.
Local track
The Hurley YMCA’s Warriors competed in Walkertown over the weekend in the Johnson-Riley Track and Field Challenge.
Parker Westbrook (Hurley Elementary) was third in the 1500 (6:30) and sixth in the 800 (3:08) in the 9-10 boys division.
Aubree Cain (Isenberg) was third in the 1500 (6:34) and third in the 3000 (15:02) in the 11-12 girls division.
Lauren Dorman (Kannapolis) was fifth in the 1500 (7:39) and fourth in the 3000 (16:00) in the 11-12 girls.
Andrew Burgess (Southeast Middle) was first in the 800 (2:26), first in the 1500 (5:03) and first in the 3000 (11:09) in the 11-12 boys.
Julianna Evans (Southeast) was first in the 1500 (6:09) and fifth in the 800 (3:00) in the 13-14 girls.
Lindsay Dorman (Kannapolis) was second in the 1500 (7:18) for 13-14 girls.
Emmeri Cain (North Rowan Middle) was seventh in the discus (41 feet, 5 inches) for 13-14 girls.
Jonah Evans (Southeast) was third in the 3000 (12:33) and fifth in the 800 (2:50) for 13-14 boys.
The Warriors will compete in High Point next.
South physicals
South Rowan will hold physicals today at 5:30 p.m. for $10.
College baseball
Appalachian State received an at-large berth for the 64-team NCAA field on Monday.
Appalachian (39-16) is the No. 3 seed in the Charlottesville Regional and will play its first NCAA postseason game in 26 years on Friday when it takes on Oklahoma (38-22). Host Virginia (38-17-1) and Army (41-13) are the other teams in the regional.
The format is double elimination.
In Catawba Valley Community College’s 11-5 win against CC of Rhode Island on Sunday in the Division II Junior College World Series, Brett Huffman (West Rowan) hit a grand slam in the seventh.
CVCC stayed alive Monday by beating Lackawanna 11-1.
