Effective immediately, the city of Salisbury Street Division will close the Fisher Street Bridge between the 200 and 300 blocks of East Fisher Street.
Over the past several years, normal wear and tear has deteriorated the Fisher Street Bridge. Today’s immediate closure is due to further deterioration identified by City Engineer and Street Division Manager Craig Powers.
During the course of repairs, local traffic will be allowed access to businesses and residences on each side of the bridge. All other through traffic is prohibited and should seek alternate routes in the downtown area. Repairs to the bridge and surrounding infrastructure will be coordinated by the street division and are expected to take as long as six months to complete.
Powers states, “Our goal is always to preserve the highest possible safety standards for our residents. Repairs will be comprehensive and should restore full, safe access to the Fisher Street Bridge.”
Inquiries regarding Fisher Street Bridge repairs may be directed to Powers at 704-638-5251.
