Honeycutt ~ Assey

NEW LONDON — Megan Lynn Honeycutt and Charles Norman Assey II were united in marriage Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Old North State Club.
Pastor Wesley Judy from Charlotte officiated the 6:30 p.m. ceremony, which was followed with dinner and dancing at the Scenic Club located on Badin Lake at Old North State Club.
The bride was escorted by her father, Stanley Dean Honeycutt. She wore an ivory colored, sweetheart-cut gown with a fitted bodice, covered with charmeuse satin with lace overlay, Swarovski crystals and keyhole back with a chapel train. A cathedral-style veil with floral lace trim was worn by the bride which was her mother’s 33 years earlier.
Megan was attended by her sister, Mallory Honeycutt Patterson of Salisbury, and Kelly Raper Husn of Charlotte as matrons of honor. Her bridesmaids included Melissa Hart Harrington, cousin of the bride, and Carrie P. Melton, both of Salisbury; Stacey W. Wood of Asheville; Kanetra Queen of Pendleton, S.C.; and Lindsey Reed of Savannah, Ga. Honorary bridesmaid and registrant was Megan Smith of Greensboro.
Flower girls were Anaston Trexler, daughter of David and Ashlinn Trexler, and Baleigh Trexler, daughter of Scott and Misty Trexler, both of Gold Hill. Honorary flower girl was Leila Husn, daughter of Jason and Kelly Husn of Charlotte and god-child of the bride and groom.
Daniel Assey of Spartanburg, S.C., brother of the groom, stood as best man. Serving as groomsmen were Brent Patterson of Salisbury, Nathan Steele of Hanahan, S.C., Russell Triplett of Newberry, S.C., David Kesser of Charlotte, Dusty New of Ridgeway, S.C., and Vaughan Dozier of Lexington, S.C.
Page boys for the ceremony were Jaxon Trexler, son of David and Ashlinn Trexler, and Gage Trexler, son of Scott and Misty Trexler, both of Gold Hill.
J. Chad Hart of Charlotte, cousin of the bride, read a poem during the ceremony and also performed a guitar solo with the bride’s sister, soloist Mallory Honeycutt Patterson, for the reception.
The bride is the daughter of Stan and Rita M. Honeycutt of Salisbury and the granddaughter of Grover and Vangie Miller of Gold Hill and the late Kenneth and Dorothy Honeycutt of Salisbury. A 2000 graduate of North Rowan High School, Megan received her bachelor degree in English and Media Studies in 2004 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she was a member of the Women’s Basketball Team. A 2007 honor graduate of Clemson University, she earned a Master in Human Resources Development while working as a graduate assistant coach for the Clemson Lady Tiger Basketball Team. Megan is presently employed by Brookland-Cayce High School as an English teacher and assistant athletic director. She is also head coach of the Girl’s Basketball Team.
The groom is the son of Stephen and Angie Sightler of West Columbia, S.C., and Charlie and Sharon Assey of Lexington, S.C. He is the grandson of Jimmy W. and Ann Marsh of Johnsonville, S.C., and the late Doris Assey of Georgetown, S.C. A 1999 graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School in Cayce, S.C., in 2004, Charles earned a Bachelor degree in Social Studies and Secondary Education from Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., where he was a member of the Baseball Team. In 2006, he graduated with honors from St. Edwards University in Austin, Tex., with a Master in Sports Management, where he served as graduate assistant coach for the Baseball Team. Charles is the head baseball coach and a History teacher at Brookland-Kayce High School.

Following a wedding trip to Riviera Maya, Mexico, the couple will make their home in Columbia, S.C.

On March 10, wedding celebrations started with an engagement party hosted by the  bride’s parents, Stan and Rita Honeycutt of Salisbury. Crystal wine glasses were presented to the couple in their selected pattern.
On April 21, attendants of the bride honored her with a bachelorette weekend get-away in Savannah, Ga., ending with a surprise bridal shower.
On May 5, the bride was honored with a noon bridal shower at the Country Club of Salisbury given by Kim Miller-Athey, Judy M. Trexler, aunts of the bride; Angie Hayes, Stacy W. Wood, Paula Witkowski, Janice Raper and Kelly R. Husn.
On May 5, an evening barbecue was given to honor the bride and groom at Forest Glen Clubhouse. Jack and Jeanie Moore, Mike, Sarah and Samantha Hensley, Sandy and Kyndal Moore, all of Salisbury, and Daniel, Sarah and Reeves Moore of Raleigh hosted the event. Food was provided by Blowing Smoke Bar-B-Que, owner and operator, Jack Moore.
On May 12, the bride and groom were honored with a couples dessert shower in Columbia, S.C., given by  Debby Triplett and Quinette Jones, friends of the groom and family.
On June 1, groomsmen honored the future groom with a bachelor golfing weekend at Lake Lure.
On June 22, the bride honored her attendants with a bridal luncheon at the Country Club of Salisbury. Gifts were presented to her wedding party.
On June 22, the groom entertained his groomsmen with a noon golf outing and luncheon at Corbin Hills Golf Club in Salisbury.
On June 22, the evening rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents, Stephen and Angie Sightler and Charlie and Sharon Assey, at the Country Club of Salisbury. A special slide show was presented to the bride and groom by Megan Smith of Greensboro, the honorary attendant and registrant for the wedding.
