CHARLOTTE (AP) — A Charlotte man has been sentenced to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend and her son more than three years ago.
Scott Davis, 50, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Davis also pleaded guilty to attempted murder for shooting and wounding the woman’s daughter.
Gabrielle Kinard, 38, and Angelo Kinnard, 18, were shot Dec. 13, 2008.
Mecklenburg prosecutors had intended to seek a death sentence.
Gabrielle Kinard’s brother said the family opposed the death sentence, saying the family wants Davis to spend a long time in prison thinking his crimes.
Prosecutors say the shooting followed a discussion about Davis moving out because of his loss of a job and refusal to get counseling.
