SALISBURY — While Belk remains only a possibility at Wallace Commons, fajitas and margaritas are a near certainty at the shopping center near Interstate 85 and Julian Road.
After more than eight months of construction, Los Arcos Mexican restaurant will open in mid-July, co-owner Cruz Macedo said.
Spanish for “the arches,” Los Arcos will offer indoor and outdoor dining at the opposite end of Wallace Commons from Kohl’s.
Los Arcos was the first Mexican restaurant in Kannapolis 21 years ago. Owners decided last year to expand into Salisbury and liked the location just off I-85 near popular national chains Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse, Macedo said.
“It’s a good place, a good, nice town,” Macedo said. “Hopefully, this shopping center is growing.”
A Charlotte developer said he expects to announce new tenants soon.
A website for the center’s leasing agent showed a proposed Belk on a site plan for the development.
Chef Jose Macedo, who has run the kitchen at 1021 S. Cannon Blvd. since the restaurant opened in Kannapolis, will move to the Salisbury location.
Both menus will be the same, offering lunch and dinner seven days a week with daily food and drink specials.
Fajitas are the most popular entree in Kannapolis, Macedo said, and he expects the same in Salisbury.
The new restaurant will seat about 90 people inside and 40 outside. Tables with umbrellas will be visible from I-85.
“Outdoor is very important for us,” Macedo said.
Prices will vary from $3.99 to $6.75 for lunch and $6.50 to $12.75 for dinner. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Macedo said he’s anxious to open after two months of construction delays.
“We love the opportunity to be in Salisbury,” he said.
