LEXINGTON (AP) — The Davidson County Republican Party is out more than $6,000 after state auditors found it did not property report contributions.
The Lexington Dispatch reports a 2011 audit by the North Carolina Board of Elections revealed the party raised more than $10,000 in unreported contributions. The party did not document 2008 check and cash contributions from a gospel fundraiser and a Reagan Day dinner.
State law requires that all contributions must be documented.
The county GOP chapter accounted for the checks following the audit, but must forfeit the cash donations through monthly payments to the state until April 2014.
The chairman from 2008 says he didn’t know that failing to report or document the donations was illegal.
