KANNAPOLIS — Fees to rent facilities owned by the Kannapolis City school system will remain the same during fiscal year 2012-13.
The Board of Education approved the move Monday.
Ellen Boyd, the district’s director of community and schools, said there was no need to increase the fees due to a 10 percent hike last year.
“We don’t expect any abnormal changes for this year, so we’d like to keep facility fees exactly the same,” she said.
Boyd said a total of 50 events were booked through the district last year for a total of 399 days.
That brought in nearly $41,800 for the school system.
Churches, athletic events, dance groups and community organizations were the most common renters.
Boyd said the Kannapolis Performing Arts Center (KPAC) located at A.L. Brown High School is the most popular venue to rent.
“We already have 121 days booked in the KPAC for the coming year; 69 of those are for Kannapolis City schools between performing arts and choral and band performances,” she said. “It’s really becoming basically a challenge to schedule everything that wants to be in the KPAC because it’s such wonderful facility.”
Boyd said 25 weekends have already been booked by outside groups.
The rates to rent facilities such as classrooms, cafeterias and fields varies depending on the amount of time needed and whether the group is nonprofit or for profit.
