EDEN (AP) — A banner containing offensive language is causing a stir in a Rockingham County town.
A county schools employee spotted the banner facing the road outside the entrance of the administrative building Wednesday. The employee removed the sign and called police.
The sign referred to replacing a 101-year-old Confederate statue in Reidsville that was struck by a truck in 2011. Reidsville officials and the United Daughters of the Confederacy agreed not to replace the statute last year.
The sign mentions the Ku Klux Klan and questioned that decision.
It is the second Klan-related incident at the school this summer. The letters “KKK” were sprayed on a school-owned SUV in June.
