Now, it’s soccer’s turn.
Rowan County will have three players in tonight’s East-West All-Star matches at UNC-Greensboro.
The girls start at 6:30 and the boys at 8:30. There will be no overtimes.
Salisbury coach Matt Parrish is sending two players from its state championship team: midfielder Kenny Bonilla and goalkeeper Connor Miller.
As senior, Bonilla was named All-State, All-Region, All-Conference and Rowan County Player of the Year. He scored 23 goals and dished out 16 assists.
Bonilla, who is headed to Catawba, had a great career at Salisbury. As a junior, he was named All-Region, All-Conference and All-County. As a sophomore, he was All-Conference and All-County.
“I’m honored and excited to be playing in the all-star game,” Bonilla said. “I expect to see how I match up with everyone else and have fun.”
• Miller is a 6-foot-5 keeper who is headed to Old Dominion.
As senior, he was All-Region, All-Conference and All-County. He recorded 15 shutouts. As a junior, he had 10 shutouts. As a sophomore, Miller recorded 13 shutouts.
Miller was not only one of the CCC’s top players, but he is ranked seventh in the state in career shutouts with 38 in 74 games.
• In the girls match, West Rowan’s Allison Baucom was named as a late replacement by Mooresville’s Steve Stith, the West coach.
Baucom was named to the 3A All-State team for the third year in a row. She scored 32 goals and had 24 assists for 88 points this past season and led the Falcons to the North Piedmont Conference title.
For her career she has 98 goals and 79 assists for 275 points. She has been named conference and region player of the year for the past two seasons, and has also been named Rowan County Player of the year twice. She was named to the all conference and all region team for four years. Like Bonilla, she will play at Catawba.
