KANNAPOLIS – Retired Chief Rick Lasky will present the “Pride and Ownership, A Firefighter’s Love of the Job” seminar in Kannapolis on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Kannapolis Train Depot.
Lasky, a 30-year veteran of the fire service, is the retired chief of the Lewisville, Texas, Fire Department. He is the co-lead instructor for the H.O.T. Firefighter Survival program at FDIC and FDIC East and is an editorial advisory board member of Fire Engineering Magazine and serves on the FDIC, FDIC West and East advisory boards. Lasky is also the author of “Pride and Ownership” the book which is a basis for the program.
Lasky notes not everyone is cut out for the fire service. “It takes only the best to serve the public when people need help most.” “Pride and Ownership” calls for men and women with honor and integrity to measure up to the task. “There’s nothing else in the world like being a firefighter” says Lasky.
The seminar is offered by Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and is being hosted by the Kannapolis Fire Department. Division Chief Tracy Winecoff of the KFD said “ The effort to bring such a high caliber speaker to the area is a testament to the educational commitment of both RCCC and the Kannapolis Fire Department’s Training Staff as we work together to enhance the opportunities not only for our personnel but for other firefighters across the state. This experience will provide a reminder of why we chose firefighting as a profession and how vital that profession is to the safety of our community.” He further explained that firefighters from various areas of North Carolina had pre-registered and were expected to attend.
