SALISBURY — A tree fell across the 1600 block of North Main Street Monday morning, cutting power for hundreds of Rowan County residents.
The tree fell about 1 a.m. and broke two power poles along the road, Tina Worley, a spokeswoman for Duke Energy, said Monday morning.
Power to about 300 homes was immediately shut off, Worley said, but that number was cut to about 200 within an hour.
“Right now, we probably have 10 to 12 customers from the outage that still do not have power,” she said about 11:30 a.m. “And they expect all power to be restored within the next couple of hours.”
All four lanes were shut down Monday morning as crews replaced the poles along North Main Street at the Spencer and Salisbury city limits.
By about 9 a.m., one lane was opened to allow northbound traffic through.
Limbs were piled along the sidewalks and six utility trucks lined the southbound side.
Worley said other residents were also affected as crews fixed the down lines.
As many as 600 residents were affected during the outage, she said.
